Josep Lluis Mateo

Josep Lluís Mateo ( born April 23, 1949 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish architect.

Biography

Mateo works as an architect since 1974, having previously studied architecture at the Escola Tecnica Superior d' Arquitectura ( ETSAB ) in Barcelona.

From 1981 to 1990 he was director of the journal " Quaderns d' Arquitectura i Urbanisme ", which in this period with the ACCA Award, the LAUS price, Ciutat de Barcelona Prize and of the International Union of Architects (UIA ) was excellent.

In 1991, he founded the company " MAP Architects" in Barcelona and heads the architectural practice since 1995, together with Marta Cervello. "MAP Architects" employs about 40 architects. Among other things, planned the branch of the country's Central Bank Deutsche Bundesbank in Chemnitz, the International Convention Center in Barcelona, various tourism and office complexes in Locarno- Ascona, an office block in Euro Lille, the Auditorium and Museum of Contemporary Art in Castelo Branco, the new Government headquarters in Haarlem, and also amusement parks in Hangzhou and Qingpu.

Since 1994, Mateo holds a Ph.D. Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya was, from 1996 to 2002 professor at the ETSAB and taught the way at various universities, including the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich ( ETH), the Unité Pedagogique 8 ( UP8 ) in Paris Belville, the Oslo Amatørastronomers Forening ( OAF ), the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam and the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Since 2002 he has been Professor of Architecture and Design at the ETH in Zurich.

Awards

For his work he has received several international awards, including 1991 with the Italstat prize for young European architects and in the same year at the Biennial in Santander for the transformation of the heart of Ullastret, 1993 for the central building of the sports division of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona the FAD prize, which has been repeatedly awarded him in 2000 for a social housing project in El Prat de Llobregat. In the Spanish Biennial of Architecture, he was a residential building on the Borneo Island in the Port of Amsterdam (1999-2000) among the finalists, was with the XV. Grupo Dragados Prize for Architecture and the CEOE (2001) excellent.
