Joshua Pim

Joshua Pim ( born May 20, 1869 in Bray, † April 15, 1942 in Killiney, Dublin ) was an Irish tennis player. He won in 1893 and 1894, the single of the Wimbledon Championships.

Life

Pim came in 1869 in the seaside resort of Bray near Dublin to the world. In 1887 he took part in tennis tournaments. After he was defeated in the finals of Wimbledon in 1892 still Wilfred Baddeley, he won there in 1893 and 1894, the final against Baddeley. In 1893 he also won at the Queen 's Club Championships. In 1898 he reached the final of the International German Championships, but lost to Harold Mahoney.

Also available as double players Pim was successful. Along with Frank Stoker he won in 1890 and 1893 doubles title at Wimbledon, and five times the Irish Championships.

In 1902, he played for the British team in the Davis Cup, but lost both games against the U.S. spends lost. Since the Davis Cup, then only one country competition between Britain and the United States, was held in New York, he took the opportunity and took part in the same year at the U.S. championships. There he was defeated in the second round of the American Leonard Ward in three sets. He then ended his tennis career.

Then practiced Pim as a doctor in Dublin. He died there in 1942 at the age of 72 years.
