Julius Darmaatmadja

Julius Riyadi Cardinal Darmaatmadja SJ (born 20 December 1934 in Muntilan, Indonesia) is an emeritus Archbishop of Jakarta.

Life

Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja studied in Mertoyudan, Giri Sonta and Poona. The ordination he received in 1969, the final profession in the Society of Jesus in 1975 he laid off. Before and after his ordination he worked as a lecturer and in the care of religious young, before he was Provincial of the Indonesian Jesuits in 1981. Two years later, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Semarang. In 1984, Darmaatmadja additionally in charge of the Indonesian Military Ordinariate and the management of the national bishops' conference.

On November 26, 1994, Pope John Paul II was a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sacro Cuore di Maria Immacolato ai Parioli in the College of Cardinals, he is since 1996 Archbishop of Jakarta. He participated in the conclave of 2005. On 7 January 2006, the Cardinal gave the office of the Indonesian military bishop for reasons of age to the Archbishop of Semarang, Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo on. June 28, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. the Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja put forward reasons of age resignation from the office of the Archbishop of Jakarta.

At Conclave 2013 Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja could not attend for health reasons.
