Jura ridgeway

The Jura Crest Trail ( Chemin des Crètes du Jura ) is a hiking trail that runs from northeast to southwest through the Jura. He is a National Route 5 one of the most promising long-distance routes in Switzerland and part of the European long-distance route E4.

The road runs along the front and the highest crest of the Jura mountains in about 352 meters ( Brugg ) to 1677 meters (La Dole ) height. It starts in Dielsdorf north of Zurich and ends after about 300 kilometers in Borex in Geneva. The mark previously consisted of red and yellow diamonds and signs, which have now been replaced by signs with the number 5. The Jura Crest Trail is maintained by the Law Association and the hiking clubs in the adjacent cantons. The Swiss Jura association maintains with the secondary routes 640 km routes between Zurich, Basel and Geneva. Along the way, overnight accommodations are available.

Stages and attractions

Stage 1: Dielsdorf - Baden The first stage leads up to the historic town of Dielsdorf rain mountain and on to the warehouses. The trail reaches the Burghorn a height of 859 m and leads into a narrow ridge trail on to Schartenfels in Baden. Hiking time: 4 h

Stage 2 Baden - Brugg The intermediate stage to Brugg via Gebenstorfer Horn, from where a view of the so-called moated castle in Switzerland ( the confluence of the River Limmat and Reuss in the Aare near Windisch ) exists. The walk ends in the historic town of Brugg. Hiking time: 3 hours

Stage 3 Brugg - Staffelegg The hike through the Aargau Jura leads first along the Bözbergs to the village Linn, where the Linner Linde stands. The trail leads through forests to Staffelegg, a major pass over the Jura. A detour from Linn in the Sagenmühlital with its tufa formations worth it. Hiking time: 4 h 30 min

Stage 4 Staffelegg - Hauenstein The fourth stage leads first to the mountain Aarau, the Wasserflue to 844 m and continues to the room height, another Jurassic transition from Aarau direction Liestal. The trail continues in the Jura Mountains and the wide pastures of sheep mate in the vicinity of distinctive radio antenna at the ruins Froburg. The walk ends at the village of Hauenstein near the eponymous mountain pass Lower Hauenstein. Hiking time: 5 h 40 min

Stage 5 Hauenstein - Balsthal The first stage leads to the Belchenflue 1099 meters and on to the basel scenic hamlet Bärenwil ( 778 m), where a trip to the Devil's Canyon is possible. Continue on the Roggenflue, which dominates the Gaeu and Oensingen with its 992 meters. The long descent to Balsthal leads directly along the rock formations of the gorge, which breaks through the first Jura main ridge here. Hiking time: 6 h 30 min

Stage 6 Balsthal - White Stone The trek starts with a climb to the Schwengimatt lying on exactly 1000 meters. Further, the trail leads through a wooded area and at the Schattenbergflue over the Balmberg. The following are the Röti and the Kurhaus on the Solothurn Weissenstein mountain ( 1284 m). From here the chairlift Oberdorf- white stone leading into the valley, it has ceased operations in 2009. Hiking time: 6 h 15 min

Stage 7 white stone - Frinvillier The rear white stone with the cave system Nidlenloch follows the highest peak of the Canton of Solothurn, Hasenmatt with 1444 meters. The hike goes through pastures of the Jura on the Grenchenberg. When Stierenberg the cantonal and linguistic limit is exceeded. Stage 8 Frinvillier - Chasseral The eight first stage leads steeply up by Orvin and by the cottage area Prés- d'Orvin to the ridge high above Lake Biel, the path continues to rise up to the mountain house on the Chasseral (1607 m). From here led a cable car to Nods, it has ceased operations in 1993. Hiking time: 6 hours

Stage 9 Chasseral - Chaumont The trail goes over the back of the Chasseral, with a trip to the Combe Grède is possible. Finally, an additional peak is reached in the Jura Mountains with the Chaumont to 1087 meters. The Chaumont is the mountain of Neuchatel and is accessible by a funicular railway. Hiking time: 5 hours

10.Etappe Chaumont - Creux du Van The walk only through the Neuchâtel suburbs Peseux and Corcelles -Cormondrèche, then through the gorge landscape of the Gorges de l' Areuse west of Boudry. Finally, enter the Val de Travers in Noiraigue, from where a steep hill leading out of the way to the Jura main ridge at Le Soliat. The rock circles of the Creux du Van is the last stop of the stage. Hiking time: 7 hours

Stage 11 Creux du Van - Ste. Croix The trail leads steadily downhill from Le Soliat to the forests in the Poëta - Raisse Gorge. Down in the valley is Môtiers. The actual trail leads Chasseron, a popular excursion destination. The descent from the summit at 1607 m performs typical Jura landscapes. Hiking time: 6 h 30 min

Stage 12 Ste. Croix - Vallorbe After the town of Sainte -Croix leads the way to the 1588 meter high Suchet at Ballaigues, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the granary of the Gros -du -Vaud and Neuchâtel. The trail leads finally to the little town Vallorbe (807 m) Hiking time: 6 hours

13th stage Vallorbe - Le Pont Shortly after Vallorbe is the Source de l' orbs. The Orbe River which flows here from the rock, however, does not arise here, but about 50 km to the west. The 6 km from the Lac de Joux to town Vallorbe the water trickles through extensive karst caves. The path now leads steeply up to the Dent de Vaulion ( 1,483 m ). The descent into the Vallée de Joux ends in the village of Le Pont. Hiking time: 3 h 30 min
