Kamensk, Republic of Buryatia

Kamensk (Russian Каменск; Buryat Хаамин, Chaamin ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Buryatia (Russia) with 7160 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The town is located some 70 km as the crow west-northwest of the Republic capital of Ulan -Ude at the northern foot of the Khamar Daban Mountains. It is located about 10 km from the left bank of the Selenga River and is 25 km from the eastern shore of Lake Baikal away.

Kamensk belongs to Rajon Kabanski and is its administrative headquarters of Kabansk nearly 10 km to the southwest. It is the seat of the municipality Kamenskoje gorodskoje posselenije, in addition to mastering the settlement Kamensk still the village Timljui and the settlement of Gorny.

History

The village was founded in the 1940s in connection with the construction of a cement factory. On 5 October 1949, he was named Kamensk and the status of urban-type settlement.

Traffic

North at Kamensk passes the Trans-Siberian Railway; just 3 km northeast of the town center is located at kilometer 5543 on the Moscow station Timljui. The railway line follows the north there highway M55 which connects with Chita Irkutsk and is part of the transcontinental rail link.
