Kara Goucher

Kara Goucher (born Kara Grgas - Wheeler, born July 9, 1978 in Queens ) is an American long-distance runner.

As a member of the team from the University of Colorado Goucher was 2000 NCAA champion in the 3000 m, 5000 m and cross-country running in the year. In the same year, she was eighth over 5000 meters at the in-country elimination fights for the Olympic Summer Games 2000.

After college, she had a few years struggling with injury. In 2006 she graduated but returned to the international elite. It was U.S. Vice- champion in the 5000 meters and ran in July 2006, the 10,000 meters in 31:17,12 min. One and a half months later they reached the World Cup in Athens over 3000 meters with a time of 8:41,42 min in third place.

The biggest success of her career she succeeded by winning the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the World Athletics Championships 2007 in Osaka behind Dibaba (ETH) and Elvan Abeylegesse (TUR ).
