Karofane

Karofane (also: Korafane ) is a rural municipality in the department of Bouza in Niger.
Geography
Karofane lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Bouza in the northwest, Babankatami in the northeast, southeast and Madaoua Ourno in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 37 administrative villages, 73 hamlets, a warehouse and a water source. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Karofane. It is located on the edge of the Tarka Valley, which runs from Tarka in the Zinder region to the River Sokoto in Nigeria.
The Forêt de classée Karofane is a 4020 acre protected nature woodland area in the municipality of Karofane. The protected status was made in 1955.
History
The rural community Karofane went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform a part of the canton Bouza.
Population
At the 2001 census Karofane had 44 569 inhabitants. For the year 2010 60.055 inhabitants were calculated.

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture.
