Kellen Briggs

Kellen Briggs ( born June 28, 1983 in Colorado Springs, Colorado) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender, who was most recently at the Dresden Eislöwen in the 2nd Bundesliga under contract. His brother Preston is also ice hockey player and was recently under contract with the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

Career

Briggs attended Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he graduated in 2003. Parallel to the school he played for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League, the major junior league in the United States. In the following four years he played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the ice hockey team of the University of Minnesota. He also studied in this time management and marketing education at the University. In his first season for the University team he reached 25 wins, setting a new freshman record. In his second year he reached with the Golden Gophers, the final tournament of the NCAA Frozen Four, the, and was awarded the John Mariucci Team MVP Award.

In his last year at the University of Briggs was appointed assistant captain - an honor that had been bestowed more since 1973 no goalkeepers in the Golden Gophers. With the Golden Gophers Briggs won the 2007 McNaughton Cup, as winners of the regular season of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and the Broadmoor Trophy as playoff - winners of League. Since leaving university Briggs holds the records for career wins and shutouts the Golden Gophers.

In the summer of 2007, Briggs attended a training camp of the Iowa Stars in part, then played but for their partner team, the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL. In the following months, he was one of the best goalkeepers in the league and was duly nominated for the All -Star Game of the ECHL. In January 2008 he was appointed the first time in the American Hockey League to the Rockford IceHogs, as Wade Flaherty was injured. After a week, he returned without AHL - use to the steelhead.

In the 2008 /09 season he played for the Ontario Reign in the ECHL before he was taken in February 2009 by the Portland Pirates of the AHL under contract. For the Pirates, he completed a total of seven games before he came in the spring of 2009 to Europe and signed a contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen.

In the summer of 2010, Briggs decided to return to the Ontario Reign and was in the following season, first at the best goalkeepers in the ECHL before he was early January 2011, committed by the Heilbronner Falken. In July 2011, he has been decorated by the Dresden Eislöwen with a contract for two years, which was not renewed after.
