Kernos

A kernos (Greek κέρνος; Kerna plural ) is a shell that was used as a sacrificial vessel for food during the Eleusinian mystery cults. The typical shape of the kernos consists of a foot, around which a ring of cup-shaped recesses is attached. It is believed that these depressions recordings fruits, meat and other offerings that were eaten after the procession from the carrier. Also on Crete similarly shaped shells were found, for example, in the palace of Malia. The function of the Minoan kernos is unclear.

You can see the Louvre Kerna and the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion.
