Kervignac

Kervignac is a commune with 6183 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southwest of the department east of the agglomeration of Lorient.

Kervignac bordered to the north by the municipalities and Hennebont Languidic, to the east by Brandérion and Nostang, to the south Merlevenez, in the extreme southwest of Locmiquelic and to the west by the Blavet, over which it is connected by the Pont du Bonhomme with Lane Rochester. The eponymous place Kervignac lies in the center of the village.

History

From prehistoric times can be found on the territory of the municipality single dolmens. The Celts left behind relics in Kervignac. In the north of the parish, the Roman road runs from Vannes to Quimper. In the 6th century AD, a parish is mentioned on the territory of the municipality under the name plebs Veneaca first time. The place name changes over Plou Vénéac and Chervenac on Kerveniac in 1280 and finally to its current Kervignac. The community Kervignac is founded in 1790 as the capital of a canton with Merlevenez, Sainte -Hélène and Nostang. In 1801, however, this goes on in the Canton of Port- Louis.

The cable-stayed bridge Pont du Bonhomme on the Blavet from the years 1900-1904 in 1974 replaced by a new building. From the old bridge, the two 37 -meter high pylons remain.

Traffic

The D194 combines Kervignac over the Pont de Bonhomme with Lanester and the agglomeration of Lorient west of the Blavet. The D9 provides for the Northern Link by Hennebont and the south link with the neighboring communities of the Ria d'Etel. The D781 crosses the west of the municipality and connects the villages to the east of the Blavet together. The north Kervignacs intersects the highway N165 (Brest - Nantes), the ramp to the N165 via the D781 in the neighboring municipality Hennebont. The municipal area the N24 highway branches off to Rennes from the N165. The first driveway on the N 24 is located on the north Kervignacs also the trans- D765 Hennebont after Brandérion.
