Key Colony Beach is a city in Monroe County in the U.S. state of Florida with 797 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

The city represents an island of the Florida Keys, which is connected via the Sadowski Causeway Marathon and the Overseas Highway (U.S. 1/SR 5). The city is located about 80 miles from Key West and 160 miles from Miami.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 797 inhabitants distributed to 1,431 households. The population density was 613.1 inh. / Km ². 98.6 % of the population were white, 0.5% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.1% Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of different ethnic groups. 4.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 50.7 % of all households lived in 7.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 56.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.84 persons and the average family size is 2.28 people.

7.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 10.7% were 20-39 years old, 27.1% were 40-59 years old and 54.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 62 years. 49.4 % of the population were male and 50.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 50,250, while 6.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 89.06 % of the population spoke Spanish 9.82% and 1.12% spoke French.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 174 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There was an assault, five burglaries, 17 robberies and car theft.
