Khadr El-Touni

Khadr Sayed El Touni (Arabic خضر التوني, DMG HADR at- Tuni, born March 15, 1915 in Cairo, † September 25, 1956 in Helwan, al - Qahira ) was an Egyptian weightlifter.

Career

He began as a young man at the Shobra School in Cairo with the weight lifting. In 1934 he was Egyptian middleweight champion with a capacity of 330 kg for the first time. His appearance and his performance at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 with the new world record in the middle weight of 387.5 kg, with whom he was 35 kg ahead of second place, were the sensation of the Games. Supposedly Adolf Hitler who said to him at the awards ceremony: " Egypt can be proud of you - I hope you choose Germany as their second home. " El Touni remained in Egypt. A black day got off to El Touni at the World Championships 1938 in Vienna. Easily hurt, he manufactured in beidarmigen When three failed attempts and remained unplaced. Probably his best years as an athlete, who from 1940 to 1945, El Touni could as well not use so many athletes. In 1948 he was able to participate in the Olympics again. At the World Championships in 1949, 1950 and 1951, he was again fabulous performances. In the 1952 Olympics he was surprisingly no longer there.

He finished his career in 1956 and came in an electric accident at his home in Helwan, only 41 years old, died. He left a wife and eight children.

1971 El- Thouni pathway was named after him in Munich's Olympic Park.
