Kim Gordon

Kim Gordon ( born April 28, 1953 in Rochester, New York) is an American musician, bassist and singer, among others, the No-Wave-/Noise-Rock-Band Sonic Youth, visual artist and curator. She co-founded several rock bands and occasionally worked as a music producer ( among other Errase errata ). She runs a clothing label called further X -Girl.

The daughter of a professor of sociology and a seamstress grew up in Los Angeles, where she attended University High School and later at Otis College of Art and Design studying art. Beginning of the 1980s, she worked as an art critic for the American art journal Artforum and worked in several New York galleries.

Kim Gordon Thurston Moore married in 1984, the singer of Sonic Youth, with whom she has a daughter named Coco. In October 2011, the couple announced their separation.

Artistic creation

Has been the musician who co-founded the rock band CKM, Free Kitten and Harry Crews, was a bassist, and often singer and guitarist of Sonic Youth.

In 1982, she curated an exhibition at White Columns Gallery, in addition to other the then little- known artist Mike Kelley and Tony Oursler were represented. She also curated an exhibition of the MU Art Foundation in Utrecht under the title Kim 's Bedroom, in the works of Jessica Wood, Jutta Koether, Rita Ackermann, Spike Jonze, Sophia Coppola, Richard Kern and Raymond Pettibon and works were represented by itself.

Your own work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Among other things, she exhibited at the Biennale in Gothenburg in 2003. From the concept artist and art and pop music critic Dan Graham, she was invited to participate in a performance with a girl band, which is the founding moment of her first band CKM and the beginning of her career as a musician.

Since 2003, she worked again with the Hungarian- American artist Rita Ackermann and the German painter and music and art critic Jutta Koether (wrote for Spex ). Along with Spike Jonze she turned the video for Cannonball by The Breeders.

In Germany, their work was first issued in May 2012 in the Berlin gallery Mathew works.

2012 also appeared YOKOKIMTHURSTON, a joint album by Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and Yoko Ono.
