Kintore (Aberdeenshire)

Kintore (Gaelic: Ceann Torr) is a village in the Scottish unitary authority Aberdeenshire. It is located about five kilometers southeast of Inverurie and 18 kilometers north west of Aberdeen on the south bank of the Don. Kintore is connected by the A96 directly to the trunk road network. The City Council of Kintore is classified in the Scottish monument lists as a monument of the highest category A.

History

After the residents had distinguished themselves in the fight against the Picts, the Scots King Kenneth II granted the rights of a burgh in the tenth century Kintore. In 1190 the rights were to a Royal Burgh supplemented and renewed 1506. Between 1821 and 1881, the population rose from 312 to 661. After the town was until 1971 had grown to 835 inhabitants, already 2028 people were counted twenty years later. Last 2001, the population was determined to be 1696.
