Kirby Award

The Kirby Awards were a short-lived amount of awards for special achievements in the field of comics. Her full name were called Jack Kirby Awards, after the pioneering cartoonist and comic writer Jack Kirby.

The Kirby Awards were sponsored by Amazing Heroes magazine and organized by Dave Olbrich. Experts selected from those nominated the winners. For the first time the awards were awarded in 1985. In 1987, an argument arose between Olbrich and Fantagraphics ( the company that issued Amazing Heroes ), since both ownership of the Kirby Awards claimed. Finally, a compromise was reached: From 1988, the Kirby Awards were no longer continued and instead introduced two new awards; Olbrich began with the presentation of the Eisner Awards and Fantagraphics henceforth awarded the Harvey Awards.
