Klaus-Peter Göpfert

Klaus -Peter Goepfert ( born October 22, 1948 in Coburg ) is a former German wrestler. He was European champion in 1970 in the lightweight in Greco- Roman style.

Career

Klaus -Peter Goepfert grew up in Albrecht's on in Suhl and began as a student with the rings. Due to his talent for the sport, he was delegated to the Children and Youth Sports School to Zella -Mehlis. He became a member of the SC motor Zella- Mehlis and trained by Fritz and Helmut Albrecht for wrestlers in Greco- Roman style. In 1966 he was in Tambach -Dietharz GDR youth champion in the class up to 70 kg body weight and a year later he finished in the GDR Veterans Championships in the lightweight 3rd place. His first title with a DDR championship he won in 1970 in the lightweight. In the same year he was first employed at an international championship, the European Championships in Berlin and immediately became European champion. He was defeated in this tournament, although the Bulgarian Stoyan Apostolov, but was lucky that this was defeated by the West German champion Manfred Schöndorfer and had to retire prematurely.

At the World Cup 1970 in Edmonton, Canada Klaus -Peter came after two wins and two draw verlaufenen battles against days Weirum from Denmark and Simion Popescu from Romania to a good 5th place.
