Kolašin

Kolasin (Cyrillic Колашин ) is a small town in the center of Montenegro. The resort has about 3,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Kolasin is located 80 kilometers north of the capital Podgorica in the mountains in the center of Montenegro. The Tara flows west past the place.

History

Kolasin was founded in the 17th century by the Turks. The long struggle between Montenegrins and Turks around the city, it was decided at the Berlin Congress in 1878 in favor of Montenegro. During the Second World War there was fighting in the almost complete destruction of the city. In Kolasin 1943, the " Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation Struggle of Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor " was founded - the subsequent public meeting of the Montenegrins. In the 80s threatened the final destruction of the place than you planned a dam on the river Tara, but this idea was rejected.

Population

At the 2011 census, the municipality of Kolasin had 8,380 inhabitants, of whom described themselves 4,812 ( 57.42 %) and Montenegrins and 2,996 ( 35.75 %) than Serbs. Besides living in the community are other smaller groups.

Traffic

Kolasin is located on the main road linking the coast and Podgorica with Serbia, the European routes E65 and E80. In addition, Kolasin is located on the railway line Belgrade - Bar. The nearest airport is in Podgorica.

Tourism

Together with Zabljak Kolasin is one of the greatest ski places in Montenegro. The mountains Bjelasica and Sinjajevina offer good skiing conditions. The fresh air in the mountains makes Kolasin as a health resort.

Kolasin also serves as a starting point for trips to Biogradska Gora National Park with one of the few remaining primeval forests in Europe and the Biograd Lake.

Sports

The most important sports club in the city is " Gorstak Kolasin " with football, basketball and karate departments. The department plays basketball since its foundation in 2006 the Montenegrin basketball league.
