Konstantinos Economidis

Konstantinos Economidis (Greek Κωνσταντίνος Οικονομίδης; born November 2, 1977 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek tennis player.

Career

Economidis could score major points on the Future and Challenger Tour. In single and double, he won the Challenger Tour five titles. In 2002, he was in his Wimbledon Grand Slam debut. However, he never got past the first round out, except at the French Open in 2007, when he defeated Chris Guccione in the first round. In the second round the Spaniard Tommy Robredo defeated Economidis. In 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games in Athens. In the individual he was defeated in the first round of Chile's Fernando Gonzalez, who was to later gain bronze, with 6:76, 2:6. In doubles, he took up with his partner Vasilis Mazarakis, but failed again already in the opening round. With 1:6, 3:6, they were subject to the Czechs Cyril Suk and Martin Damm.

Economidis plays since 1996 for the Greek Davis Cup team. In 37 appearances, he played 64 games. Both the individual with 26:10 and 18:10 in a double with his balance is positive. He is the most successful national team of his country and at the same time record player.
