Geographical Location

Copper Mountain is located between the Franconian Forest and the Fichtelgebirge, and with about 1060 inhabitants, one of the smallest cities in Germany.

History

The city rights were built in 1326 and were awarded by the bishop of Bamberg Henry II of Sternberg. About 3,000 people lived in the city. In mining, 1,700 miners were employed. In Kupferberg temporarily copper contents of 15 % copper per tonne of ore were promoted, which even today is considered one of the outstanding copper mineralization in Europe. The former Office of the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg was reversed after the secularization in the main country comparison of Bavaria to Prussia. With the Principality of Bayreuth it was in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France. 1810 came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. Natural Monuments

  • The 589 -meter-high magnetic mountain Peterleinstein between Kupferberg and Marktleugast protrudes markedly out of the forest.
