Under Steinach is located in the Franconian Forest nature park.

History

Untersteinach was first documented in the year 1281st The Oldenburg noble family Hiltrich embossed across six generations until their extinction in 1765 the history of the place. As part of the Prussian principality of Bayreuth, the former manor fell in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France and came to Bavaria in 1810. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

The Great Fire of 1706

On August 10, 1706 came by a knavish trick to the biggest disaster in the history of sub- Steinach. Three teenagers were playing in a barn with a key box, and then the building caught fire. Because of the nice weather and the beginning of the harvest season, almost all citizens of the town were in the fields. Thus, the fire could spread rapidly and almost the whole town burned down. It was to mourn a death toll. The sub Steinacher were taken after the accident in the neighboring villages. Two houses were spared, one of which is the oldest building in Untersteinach. It is privately owned and is a listed building.

St Oswald 's Church

The St Oswald 's Church of the Lutheran church Untersteinach is an old fortified church with elements of Gothic architecture. The old fortifications of sandstone with the gatehouse are still preserved and can be visited. Even the old rectory is still surrounded by a wall.

The parish was first documented in 1281 during a dispute between the mountain of Blass and Count Otto von Orlamünde.

Already in 1553 the St. Oswald Parish adopted the Lutheran doctrine.
