Waters

The Schorgast is a tributary of the White River Main in Upper Franconia.

The still largely unspoiled Schorgast, even after the valley is named, lies in the eastern municipality of Marktschorgast in a source area near the railway Bamberg -Hof, which formerly served the drinking water supply of Marktschorgast part. On its 25 km long run it takes the Perlbach, the White Stream, the Koser and the Lower Steinach on.

History

Architectural History

Because of the fires in 1824, 1838 and 1840 has been preserved by historical buildings little. The uniform townscape has spätbiedermeierliche by rebuilding forms. Only in the Catholic parish church of St. James the core wall of the choir is still Romanesque choir and nave around 1500 were built, the choir still rebuilt several times. Two trains wall and a round tower are the remains of the late medieval church weir. The parsonage was built around 1750 to a design by Johann Michael Küchels. The Kreuzberg chapel was built around 1700 to the late Gothic foundations.

The station ensemble consists of the station building, a goods shed and a water house. The station building was probably built in the years 1853/54 to plans by Friedrich Bürklein. It is a three-storey building of sandstone blocks with one-story wings and a hip roof. The goods shed is also built of sandstone and has a gabled roof. It was built around 1850; as the two-storey house water. The latter was temporarily used as a residence and is now empty. The ensemble from the early days of the Ludwig South - North Railway is a listed building. After the demolition of the house water in Kulmbach 1990, the market choir Gaster water house is probably the last such building from the early days of the operation on the track.

Railway

Marktschorgast lies on the railway line Bamberg -Hof ( the route is part of the Ludwig South - North Railway from Lindau to Hof ) at kilometer 82.0. The station is located on the mountain side (upper) end of the inclined plane, which begins directly behind the south exit of the station and ends at their side of the valley at the New Market Wirsberg station in New Market.

The station building is a small information center for the inclined plane. At the former goods shed east of the station building begins with an information panel on the teaching trail along the inclined plane after New Market. On the street side of the station building, a summary table is attached to the hiking path.

In the summer months on weekends often special trips on the inclined plane with steam locomotive hauled trains or historic railway vehicles instead, organized by the German Steam Locomotive Museum in New Market and other clubs.
