Kurban Berdyev

Gurban Berdiýew (Russian Курбан Бекиевич Бердыев / Kurban Bekijewitsch Berdyjew; born August 25, 1952 in Ashgabat, Turkmen SSR ) is a Turkmen football coach and former Soviet footballer.

After his time as an active soccer player in the 1970s and 80s he worked as a coach. After Erstligastationen in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Turkey, as well as national coach of Turkmenistan since 2001 he is head coach and vice-president of Rubin Kazan. He led the club from the second Russian league in 2002 in the Premjer league and championships in the years 2008 and 2009.

Career

Berdiýew came with 1966 youth team of Club Kolchostschy from his home town, for which he was also in 1971 his debut in the second division of the Soviet Union; after six years at the club in the second and third league, in 1977 he joined for one year for Kazakhstan's top club Kairat in the top division of the USSR, but could not prevail, and went back to his home club. 1979 brought him the first division side FK SKA Rostov, of which a second time, he moved to Kairat 1981, this time with more success. Until his retirement in late 1985, he played for the club mostly in the highest Soviet league.

Following his playing career Kazakh third division Chimik Djambul him in 1986 he was engaged as a coach. After the end of the USSR, he coached in the 1990s several Kazakh, Turkmen and Turkish Premier League clubs, so 1992/93 Gençlerbirliği Ankara and 1997-1999 Nisa Ashgabat, with whom he was champion in 1998 and 1999 Cup Winners' Cup. During this time he was also head coach of the Turkmen national team.

Subsequently, he took over in 2000 for the first time a Russian club, the second -division club Kristall Smolensk, before he moved to league rivals Rubin Kazan after a few months. With this he succeeded in 2002, the rise, with a third place in the inaugural season. Only in 2004 he could not lead to a European Cup participation the club; before him in 2008 with the championship of the biggest success of his career as the club succeeded, he could repeat the same a year later.

Private life

Gurban Berdiýew is married to his second wife. From his first marriage, his son Marat stems (* 1975), who now works as a music producer. From his second marriage he has a daughter and a son: Aylar (* 1990) and Alaberd (* 1996).
