2008 Russian Premier League

The Premjer - League 2008 was the seventh season of the Russian Premjer League. It started on 14 March 2008 with the match Terek Grozny against Krylia Sovetov Samara and ended on 22 November 2008. Between May and July the championship was interrupted because of the 2008 European Championship. Only three games left standing Rubin Kazan laid as a Master.

Mode

16 teams played in 30 match days of the Russian football champions. Each team played two times against any other team, even in their own stadium and once at the stadium of the opponent. This resulted in a total of 240 games. For a win you got three points with a tie, both teams received a point. Who could get the most points during the season was a Russian football champions.

Preseason

As defending champion Zenit St. Petersburg went into the season. The two last-place clubs in the preseason, FK Kuban Krasnodar and FC Rostov had to stay in the first division and were replaced by Schinnik Yaroslavl and Terek Grozny.

After the season

In addition to the champions Rubin Kazan also the runner-up CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League will participate in 2009/10. Dynamo Moscow will start in qualifying for this competition. Amkar Perm and Zenit St. Petersburg to take part in the qualifiers for UEFA Europa League 2009/10.

The two last-place ( Schinnik Yaroslavl and sucking Energiya Vladivostok ) have to play in the 1st Division 2009. FK Kuban Krasnodar and FC Rostov allowed to participate again at the Premjer league only one year after its descent, as they took the top two spots in the 1st Division 2008.
