Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Greek Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης; born March 4, 1968 in Athens, Greece) is a Greek politician and Member of Parliament. He is Minister for Administrative Reform and E-Government in the Government of Antonis Samaras.

Life

Kyriakos Mitsotakis comes from one of three major political families in Greece, which determine several generations Greek politics in many parts. He is the son of Konstantinos Mitsotakis, former Greek Prime Minister and Honorary President of the New Democracy party. His sister, Dora was Bakogianni 2002-2006 Mayor of Athens and then to 2009 Greek Foreign Minister. Eleftherios Venizelos, 1910-1933, with interruptions over 15 years of Greek Prime Minister, was his great-uncle. His grandfather and great-grandfathers were two members of parliament.

Kyriakos came six month old baby with his family to Paris, where his father had gone into exile with family after he had been arrested several times soon after the coup of the Greek military junta. The age of six, he returned to the end of the dictatorship in 1974, returned to Greece. In 1986, he ended there the Athens College as valedictorian.

He has three children, Sophia, Konstantinos and Dafni. In addition to Greek, he speaks fluent English, French and German.

Professional career

Mitsotakis studied from 1986 to 1990 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts social sciences and became his doctorate summa cum laude. For his dissertation, " The American foreign policy towards Greece during the period 1977-1985 ", he was honored by the award of " Hoopes Prize" from Harvard University.

From 1990 to 1991 he worked as an economic analyst at Chase Manhattan Bank in London and then did his military service in Greece from. After he graduated from Stanford University in the United States for his Master " International Economic Relations " with focus on " European integration ". With the acquisition of a further Masters in Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, he completed his studies.

Political career

In the Greek parliamentary elections in March 2004 and in September 2007 he was elected as Member of Parliament for the New Democracy party in the constituency Athens B. He is Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection and the Greco- Finnish Parliamentary Group. He also serves on the committees for constitutional reform, Economy, Foreign Affairs and Defence.
