La Crosse is a city in Alachua County in the U.S. state of Florida with 360 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

La Crosse is located around 15 kilometers north of Gainesville and about 95 km southwest of Jacksonville.

History

La Crosse was founded in 1860 as a rural village, in an area that lived at that time mainly from cotton growing. The post office opened its doors in 1881 and the city was recognized on 12 December 1897 as a city. Today, the main products are potatoes, tobacco and vegetables.

In La Crosse, there are 2 different churches: the " La Crosse Baptist Church " of the Baptist Church and the Methodist Church ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 360 inhabitants distributed in 143 households. The population density was 102.9 inh. / Km ². 77.8 % of the population were white, 18.1% African American, 0.3% Native American and 0.6 % Asian Americans. 3.3% were members of different ethnic groups. 16.4 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.2 % of all households lived in 33.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 72.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.77 and the average family size of 3.14 persons.

25.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.9% were 20-39 years old, 33.0 % were 40-59 years old and 22.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 44 years. 50.6 % of the population were male and 49.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 56,458, while 10.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100 % of the population.
