La Longeville

La Longe Ville is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Longe Ville is located at 822 m, near Montbenoît, about 14 km northeast of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, a slight increase on the northern side of the valley of the Doubs, in the Val du Saugeais, north of the Jura hills of the Montagne du Larmont, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​15.66 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southern boundary of the municipality runs partly along the Doubs, partly on the slopes on the left (north) side of the valley. The Doubs flows first here in a relatively wide Talniederung to the northeast through the Val du Saugeais. Below La Longeville enters the river in the Défilé d' Entre -Roches. This canyon -like section is accompanied on both sides by striking rock walls. To the north, the municipality's area extends over the gently sloping hillside of La Longeville showing a loose structure of meadow and pasture land and forest, down to the adjoining broad ridges. This is achieved on a hilltop in Bois des Courtots with 991 m the highest peak of La Longeville. On the north-east, the municipality share of the Plateau of Gilley ( average 860 m), which connects to the north also Défilé d' Entre -Roches. With a narrow strip of the area extends to the southern slope of the anticline Cret Monniot.

Neighboring communities of La Longeville Gilley are in the north, Les Combes and Ville -du -Pont in the east, the south and Montbenoît Montflovin and La Chaux in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages La Longeville belonged to the monastic rule Montbenoît. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. The village does not have its own church; it is part of the parish Montbenoît.

Population

With 700 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Ville lunge is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 779 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Longeville was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses, especially in the fields of cheese production and wood processing. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D437 which leads from Pontarlier to Morteau, and is easily accessible from Montbenoît and Ville -du- Pont. Further road links exist with Gilley and La Chaux. The operation of the former railway line from Pontarlier to Gilley has been set.
