La Porte is a city in Harris County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in the southeast of Texas at Trinity Bay, a bulge of Galveston Bay, is 43 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 51.7 km ², of which 2.6 km ² water surface.

History

La Porte is known as the scene of the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836, was a decisive victory Texan in the dispute between the Republic of Texas and Mexico during the Texas Revolution and ended with the independence of Texas and the Treaty of Velasco.
