La-un District

Amphoe La - un ( Thai: อำเภอ ละอุ่น ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of the province of Ranong. The Ranong province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

Amphoe La -un is of the following Amphoe limited ( seen from the north clockwise from ): Amphoe Kra Buri of Ranong, Amphoe Sawi, Amphoe Lang Suan and Amphoe Phato Chumphon Province and Amphoe Mueang Ranong province again in Ranong. To the west, on the estuary of the Maenam Kraburi ( Kraburi River ) the Tanintharyi Division is located in Myanmar.

The Maenam Kraburi is next to the Khlong La -un an important water resource. His big mouth area is protected as a wetland under the Ramsar Convention. The eastern bank of the estuary is part of the Lam Nam Kraburi National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ลำน้ำ กระบุรี ).

To the east of the county is a part of the Namtok Ngao - National Park. The main attraction and namesake of the 668 km ² large park is the Ngao waterfall which is visible from afar. However, the park offers a few more waterfalls and a hot mineral spring.

History

In 1932, the small district ( King Amphoe ) La -un was established under the administration of the district Mueang Ranong. On June 28, 1973 La -un got the full Amphoe status. A new administrative building was built in 1996.

Management

Amphoe La -un is in seven communities ( tambon) divided, further in 35 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

La - un ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ละอุ่น ) is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district, it covers parts of the tambon La -un Tai and Bang Phra Tai.

There are also three " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
