Lagnieu

Lagnieu ( Franco-Provençal Lagnioe ) is a commune with 6785 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes. It is the main town ( chef -lieu ) of the canton of the same name. The inhabitants Lagnolans or Latinicois call themselves.

Geography

The community Lagnieu lies at the foot of southwestern foothills of the Jura, near the striking Rhôneknie, about six kilometers south of Ambérieu -en- Bugey.

To Lagnieu include the districts Charveyran, Chamoux, Posafol and Proulieu.

Attractions

The Château de Mont Ferrand, built in 1471, has been separated during the French Revolution in plots. Today, the towers, parts of the ensemble, including fireplaces, shutters (17th century) and wall paintings are missing are still preserved. The remains of the castle are reported as a monument historique.

The Church of St John the Baptist ( Eglise Saint -Jean -Baptiste ) was built in 1867-1870.
