Ambronay

Ambronay [ ɑ.bʁɔ.ne ] is a commune in the Ain department in the Rhône- Alpes region. The rural community is located about five kilometers north of Ambérieu -en- Bugey, the capital of the canton. Lyon is located about 50 km south-west, Bourg -en- Bresse, seat of the prefecture, about 30 km north-west.

The Benedictine Abbey of Notre -Dame was founded towards the end of the 9th century. In the wake of the French Revolution, the abbey was secularized. The abbey church was the parish church and classified in 1889 as a monument historique. The monastery buildings are now the scene of early music festivals.
