Lake Tikitapu

The Lake Tikitapu or Blue Lake is the smallest of four lakes between Lake Rotorua and Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty region in the North Island of New Zealand. The other three are the Rotokakahi Lake ( Green Lake ), Lake Okareka and the Lake Okataina.

The lakes lie in the volcanically active Okataina caldera that originated in the last 300,000 years. The blue color of the lake is attributed to the deposits of rhyolite and pumice on the lake bottom. The lake has no visible outlets.

In summer the lake is used for recreational purposes, are performed many sporting events such as water skiing and triathlon. He also, like many lakes in the region used for trout fishing.
