Lake Okareka

The Lake Okareka is one of four lakes between Lake Rotorua and Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty region in the North Island of New Zealand. The other three are the Rotokakahi Lake ( Green Lake ), Lake Tikitapu ( Blue Lake ) and Lake Okataina. The lakes lie in the volcanically active Okataina caldera that originated in the last 300,000 years.

The lake is 33.5 m deep. The catchment area of the lake consists mainly of pastures ( 51.6 %) and native forests ( 31.6 %).

At this well-known for its natural beauty lake is a village with about 6000 inhabitants. The lake is easily reached in 15 minutes' drive from the center of Rotorua from.
