Lake Rotokakahi

The Lake Rotokakahi or Green Lake is one of four smaller lakes between Lake Rotorua and Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty region in the North Island of New Zealand. The other three lakes are Lake Tikitapu ( Blue Lake ), Lake Okareka and the Lake Okataina. They are located on the western edge of the Okataina caldera.

The name of the Māori for the lake is derived from its wealth of shellfish. The outlet of the lake leads over the falls of Te Wairoa in the Lake Tarawera. The lake appears from the air because of its flat, sandy ground emerald green. The water level is 397 m above sea level and 21 m above the water level of the adjacent Lake Tikitapu. The lake is regarded by Māori as tapu and therefore remains largely undisturbed. He belongs to the area of the Te Arawa Iwi from Tuhourangi.
