Larry Knechtel

Larry Knechtel (* August 4, 1940 in Bell, California, † August 20, 2009 in Yakima, Washington), actually Lawrence William Knechtel, was a studio musician who together worked with The Beach Boys, The Doors, and Elvis Presley. He was also a member of the band Bread.

Life

Knechtel was in 1959 a member of the backing band of Duane Eddy, The Rebels. He also worked as a studio musician, among others, Phil Spector together. In addition to the piano, he played harmonica, bass and guitar. In 1970, he won a Grammy Award for his arrangement of Bridge over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel. The following year he joined the band Bread. Most recently, he collaborated with music producer Rick Rubin and toured with the Dixie Chicks. In 2007 he was inducted into the Musician's Hall of Fame.

Knechtel was married and had two children.
