Geography

Geographical Location

The Samtgemeinde Lathen is in the northwest of the district on the river Ems.

The station is Lathen of the regional express trains of the track Rheine - operated empty.

Neighboring communities

In the north, the Municipality Lathen adjacent to the Municipality Dorpen, on the east by the Municipality Soegel, to the south by the city of Haren and to the west by the Netherlands.

First full-time Samtgemeinde mayor is Karl -Heinz Weber ( CDU), who was elected in the election on 17 June 2004 with 74.1 % of votes.

Honorary citizen Lathens is Erna de Vries. Born in Kaiserslautern in 1923 survivors of the Holocaust was the born in Lathen Joseph de Vries, who spent six years as a Jew in German concentration camps, married.
