Legio I Armeniaca

The Legio I armeniaca ( "First Armenian Legion ") was a Roman legion, which was excavated as legio II armeniaca Ripensis with her sister Legion Legio and was stationed in the province of Armenia. The excavation took place possibly in the 3rd century.

In the year 363, the Legion took part in the Persian campaign of Emperor Julian.

In the year 382, the legion was transferred to the restless Roman province Isauria. Matronianus, the Comes Isauriae let it strengthen by the walls of the city Anemurium.

In the early 5th century it is called in the Notitia Dignitatum as legio pseudocomitatensis under the command of the magister militum per orientem. The Pseudocomitatenses were in higher esteem than the border guards.
