Legio I Macriana liberatrix

The Legio I Macriana Liberatrix was a Roman legion, which was for a short time in the year 68. Her name means liberator of Macer. The legion symbol is unknown.

In 68 of the legatus Augusti revolted propraetore Africae ( governor of the province of Africa ) Lucius Clodius Macer against Nero. To reinforce the legio III Augusta, commanded by him, which led also liberatrix the nickname he picked up the Legio I Macriana Liberatrix from. It is unknown whether the soldiers of the Legion still had the opportunity to be used in combat, since Nero killed shortly after the excavation. His successor, Galba distrusted Macer, fearing that this might rebel against him.

Galba was still Macer in 68 murder by the procurator Trebonius Garutianus. The newly excavated Legion was immediately dissolved again. Maybe undertook Vitellius, Galba's successor in the years 69, the vain attempt to re- establish; likely is the inclusion of the conscripts in different legions.
