Leisi Parish

Leisi ( German: Laisberg ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Saare County with an area of ​​347.91 km ². It has 2 127 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2006).

Leisi located in the north of the island of Saaremaa. In addition to the administrative headquarters Leisi the country parish includes the villages Pärsama, Karja and Metsküla and further 45 settlements. Since 1990 there is a community partnership with Karis (Finnish: Karis ) in southwestern Finland.

The historic parish of Karja ( German: Karrishof ) on the territory of today Leisi was first mentioned in the 13th century. Worth seeing are the early Gothic church of Karja from the 14th century and the Orthodox Churches of Leisi and Metsküla from the 19th century. The unspoilt coastline is ideal for hiking.
