Geography

Leopold im Marchfelde located in the center of the field on March Rußbach ( Marchfeldkanal ) in the wine district in Lower Austria. History

The earliest mention of the town dates from the famous minstrel Tannhäuser in 1246, who had an estate ( fief ) in Leopold village.

Previous names of Leopold village were Liutpoltsdorf daz lit bi lynx close ( owner Tannhäuser ), Leupoltzdorf, Lewpoltsdorf, Leoppoltsdorf, Luiberstorff, Leutmannsdorf, Loibersdorf, Loypersdorf ( Vischerkarte ) Loipersdorf, Loibersdorff and Leopold VUMB village ( neighborhood under the mountain Manhart ). Today's spelling Leopold im Marchfelde goes back to a publication in the Official Gazette from 1916.
