Aumont

Les Montets is a municipality in the district Broye the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was founded by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Aumont, Frasses, Granges -de -Vesin and Montet (Broye ) on 1 January 2004.

Geography

Les Montets is located 4 km south of the district town Estavayer -le- Lac (air line). The municipality stretches along the southwestern edge of the Broyeebene and neighboring Molassehügelland, in the northwestern Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​10.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal. The area extends from the plateau at Estavayer southward across the broad valley of the brook Arignon and over the rise of Montet in the Valley of the Petite Glane. This valley is bounded on the north-west of the height of La Lovataire, in the southeast of the heights of Aumont. In a narrow edge of the municipality floor extends further south over the Forest Hills Bois d' Aumont ( 725 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Les Montets ) up to the Ruisseau du Moulin ( Dorfbach of Ménière's ) and in the forest of Verdière. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 29 % of forest and woody plants, 62 % in agriculture and somewhat less than 1% was unproductive land.

Les Montets consists of the villages Montet (Broye ) ( 490 m above sea level. M. ) north of Petite Glane, Frasses (482 m above sea level. M. ) in the hollow of Arignon, Granges -de -Vesin (515 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of the Petite Glane and Aumont ( 594 m above sea level. M. ) at the level between the Valley of the Petite Glane and Aumont. In addition, include some isolated farms to the community. Neighboring municipalities of Les Montets are Estavayer -le- Lac, Sévaz, Bussy, Cugy, Ménières, Nuvilly, Murist and Lully in the Canton of Fribourg and Sassel in the canton of Vaud.

Population

With 1333 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Les Montets is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 84.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 6.2 % and 3.1 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Les Montets amounted in 1900 to 1162 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased to 1980 by around 30 % to 798 inhabitants from. Only since a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Les Montets was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Earlier mills were operated along the Petite Glane. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In Montet ( Broye), several companies, including a furniture factory and operation of metal construction have settled. In Granges -de -Vesin a gravel pit is exploited. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Estavayer -le- Lac and Payerne.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. Montet ( Broye) and Frasses lie on the old main road from Payerne to Estavayer -le- Lac. The nearest links to the A1 motorway (Lausanne -Bern ), which was opened in 2001 and crosses the northern municipality, around 2 km from Montet (Broye ) is removed. History

The municipality of Les Montets was settled very early. In Frasses traces of settlement have been discovered from the Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the Roman period. Graves from the La Tène period were found in Frasses and Aumont.

Since the Middle Ages were subject to all the resorts of Les Montets the reign Estavayer. After Bern 1536 had conquered the Vaud countryside, the villages came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Estavayer were allocated. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) included the villages of Les Montets during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Estavayer before they were incorporated in 1848 in the District Broye.

As part of since 2000 sponsored by the Canton of Fribourg municipal mergers, the inhabitants of Montet (Broye ) Frasses, Granges -de -Vesin Aumont and were in favor of a merger. Effective on January 1, 2004, therefore, was the new municipality Les Montets.
