Read Mountain ( in the local dialect: [ ˌ liəʃ bɛrg ]; French Mont July, Irtièmont, Irtiémont, Hicurtimont ) is a municipality in the district of Laufen in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

The municipality is located in Laufen on the slope of the blue. To place also includes the hamlet Riederwald and Oberrüti and the industrial estate Lies hill station, down in the valley on the railway line the Juratrain.

The municipality Lies mountain is very large surface area, ranging in the south to the mountains of the canton of Jura in the north against the solothurn enclave Huggerwald. The village Lies mountain is not very well known, as most passers only the cantonal road Delsberg - know running. In the valley there are the hamlets Riederwald, Oberrüti and Lies mountain station. History

160 million years ago, during the Jurassic sea, to sea - dinosaurs roamed over Read Mountain. In the clay pit you can even now meet with ammonites and fossilized prehistoric plants.

Read Berg is mentioned in 1241 as Liebi mountain and in 1281 as Liesperch. The place, however, was earlier used as a settlement area, but was found on the municipality prehistoric flint blades, a late Roman villa and early medieval graves in the area of this villa.

Read mountain once belonged to the monastery of St. Blaise and then from 1271 to the Prince-Bishop's bailiwick clamps. Like so many other towns in the Jura was also this place in 1792 under French rule and in 1815 conferred upon the Congress of Vienna the Canton of Bern. After the establishment of the Jura canton of Bern separate area came in 1994 to the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

Economy

At the time of the Prince Bishops, as they stayed in Porrentruy in the 16th century, Lies mountain owned 14 hectares of vines on the sunny terrace. In the 18th century Lies mountain was a center of lime and cement manufacturing industry with massive rock excavation.
