Lipov

Lipov ( German Lippau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers south-east of Veseli nad Moravou and belongs to Okres Hodonín.

Geography

Lipov extends on both sides of the Velička in the western foothills of the White Carpathians. To the north rises the Zámezí (222 m ) in the north- east, the Nová hora (326 m) and Stara hora (311 m ) east of the Dlouhá hora (375 m), the South East Hájova (354 m ) south of the Vrchy (340 m) and the Výzkum ( 439 m) and in the northwest of the Radošov (244 m). On the slope in the vineyards north of the village the railway line Nové Mesto nad Váhom - Veseli nad runs Moravou.

History

After the replacement of patrimonial Lipov / Lippau formed in 1850 a market town in the district team Göding and the jurisdiction Strážnice. 1870 lived in 223 houses of Lipov 1242 people. At the end of the 19th century, the market received the Czech name LIPOV, which in 1924 was changed back to Lipov. In 1900, the population had grown to 1755.
