Vracov

Vracov ( German Wratzow ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers south-east of Kyjov and belongs to Okres Hodonín.

Geography

The South Moravian wine growing town in the headwaters of Vracovkský creek and is surrounded to the north by vineyards and south of an extensive forest area. The creek, through the valley leads the railroad divides the city. To the north is the historic part and south of the new settlement. Vracov located on state road 54 and the railway line between Kyjov and Veseli nad Moravou.

Neighboring towns are Žádovice and Žeravice in the north, Těmice in the northeast, Bzenec in the east, and Vacenovice Milotice in the southwest, and Skoronice Vlkoš in the west and Kelčany in the northwest.

History

Presumably, the 1201 first mentioned place was created during the reign of the Moravian Přemyslids. The name is derived from Vracov Vrac, a Dimutivform the name Vratislav. Constance of Hungary in 1231 had both in Hodonín and in Bzenec points that belonged to her dowry. The Queen was also the founder of the Church of St. Lawrence. Her grandson Ottokar II annexed to the Vracov Břeclaver circle. Together with the town and castle Břeclav also Vracov 1264 pledged to William of Hustopeč, who extended the city to a management center in southeast Moravia and his property divided into the Břeclaver and Vracover circle. Vracov received it the status of a court seat. After the resolution was Vracov royal rule and later became the Moravian Chamber assigned. Wenceslas II (Bohemia ) moved the county seat to Bzenec, where he built a new Gothic castle. After the extinction of the Přemyslids Vracov fell to John of Luxembourg.

Between 1427 and 1428 the Hussites were besieging the castle under Andreas Prokop Bzenec and destroyed. 1517 Vracov received the status of a borough, and the brewing rights conferred. 1568 acquired the Silesian nobleman Kaspar Pruskowski Proskau of the rule and moved to revive the economy of German craftsmen.

1848 Wratzow was after the replacement of patrimonial regimes for independent municipality. On 1 January 1967, the town rights.
