Moravany (Hodonín District)

Moravany ( German Morawan, formerly Morawann ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers north of Kyjov and belongs to Okres Hodonín.

Geography

Moravany is located on the southwestern foot of the Mars Mountains at the confluence of the creek creek creek Moravanský in the Čeložnický. To the north rises the Paní háj (410 m), in the northeast of Šepruny (303 m ) west of the Bohuslavická Nová hora (295 m) and in the northwest the Zelena hora (305 m) and the Lenivá hora (486 m ).

Neighboring towns are Koryčany, Kameňák and Zavadilka in the north, Josefinský Dvůr in the northeast, Labuty and Skalka in the east, Dolni Moštěnice and Ježov the southeast, Hýsly and Kelčany in the south, Kostelec the southwest, Bukovany in the west and Bohuslavice and Čeložnice in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Moravany took place in 1324, when the Vladike Stepan Moravany as a witness drew a comparison between Protivec of Buchlov and the monastery Velehrad. The property was ever divided during the 14th century between different members of the extensive Vladikengeschlechts, all of whom lived in Moravany. At that time existed in Moravany three yards and two taverns. It is believed that a firmament existed, their location is suspected at the site of the present City Hall. In Moravany lime was broken since the Middle Ages and operated lime kilns. Also, was at Moravany one of the two iron ore mines in the mountains of Mars, which was operated since the 8th century.

Successive was the sale of individual shares of landlords around as Zdenko von Sternberg, Mikuláš and Boček of Labuty, Bartos of Tucapy and Arkleb of Zástřizl. Anna Moravany married Smil of Land Stone, who led the predicate " of Morawan " (z Moravan ) and died in 1381. Their son John of country rock and Morawan ( † around 1423 ) first tried to unite in his hand the family property. After the abolition of patrimonial Moravany / Moravan formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Gaya. After the abolition of Okres Kyjov the place was in 1960 assigned to the Okres Hodonín.
