Liptovský Ján

Liptovsky Jan (until 1960 slovak " Liptovsky Ján Svätý ", until 1927 only " Svätý Ján "; German Sankt Johann in Liptau, Hungarian Szentiván ) is a municipality in the north-west of the Low Tatras in central Slovakia.

Location

The community is located at the bottom of Jánska Dolina. This valley extends to the south by the peaks of Dumbier ( 2043.4 m) and the Kralická ( 1807.4 meters ) to the Waag in the north. It is limited by the mountain range west of the Poludnica ( 1548.7 m) and the Krakova hola ( 1751.6 meters) (from north to south). To the east, the valley is closed by the summit of Smrekovica ( 1,285.1 meters), the Ohnište ( 1538.0 m) and the Rovná hoľa ( 1722.9 meters) (from north to south). By Jánska Dolina Štiavnica the river, which flows into the Waag at the end of the valley flows. In the two rock walls are - as usual in the region - many caves to be found.

Liptovsky Mikulas is removed in about ten kilometers and Liptovsky Hradok about two kilometers.

History

The place took its first mention in 1327. Famous the place was already in the 14th century for its mineral springs. In 1549, the mineralogist Juraj Werner described in his published in Switzerland font with the original title " O liečivých prameňoch Uhorska " ( German: "On the mineral springs of Hungary" ) the place. In 1943 the camp was located in the village of 132 Slo the German Kinderlandverschickung.

Tourism

The community is an attractive tourist destination both in summer and in winter. In the summer can move from here to the nearby mountain peaks of the Low Tatras, as the Dumbier or Chopok be erklummen on good marked paths. In addition, the outdoor swimming pool can be used in summer at the riverside Štiavnica. In winter, however, are four ski lifts in the municipal area available; the famous ski resort Jasna is not far away (about 20 km). All year round the swimming pool in Hotel Maj is to visit the hot springs, which should have a proven healing effect on skin diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, metabolic diseases, urological and gynecological disorders, nervous and cardiovascular disease.

The community is located just off the highway D1 and has its own motorway exit. Furthermore, to achieve Liptovsky Ján by bus from Liptovsky Mikulas and Liptovsky Hrádok where a connection to the Slovak railway network across the railway line Žilina - Košice is.
