Lisburn Distillery F.C.

Lisburn Distillery is a Northern Irish football club based in Lisburn, which plays in the IFA Championship. The team wears has always been white home jerseys. He is one of the oldest official football clubs throughout Ireland.

History

In July 1879, the club was founded as a VR Distillery Cricket Club by members of the Royal Irish Distillery in Belfast. The football section, the Distillery Football Club, formed in November 1880. A month later, on December 11, 1880, the first game against Dundela found on the Daisy Hill also already taken. It was won 1-0.

During the season 1882/83, the Whites moved to a larger space near Broadway. On April 19, 1884 was finally time: Distillery won for the first time the Irish Cup, which was successfully defended in the following two years. The largest margin of victory ever achieved in this Cup with a 18-0 against United Steamship on 29 October 1887., 1889, in the year of the move in the Grosvenor Park, the team won for the first time in the County Antrim Shield. Also in the first season of the Irish League, it was enough for a good third place. For the first time the club was champion after the season 1895 /96 apply. This year, with the Irish Cup and County Antrim Shield Triple done perfectly.

In the 1905/06 season the club finished the Irish Premier League points with Cliftonville FC in the first place. The attached decision by the IFA game ended in a draw after extra time. It was hoped that a replay now bring forth a winner, but even this was after extra- time draw. The Association decided that this really equally strong teams should both get the trophy.

Later in the story also followed victories in the City Cup and Gold Cup. From 1922/23, bis 1927/28, the club played at York Park, before returning back to the Grosvenor Park. Even a novelty managed the club: in the season 1952/53, the first floodlights in full Irish football has been installed.

Five years later (1957 ) was obtained for the first time the Ulster Cup. One of the greatest successes of the club is in the year 1963/64, when the team in the European Champions Cup in the first leg of the first round was won by a 3-3 draw with Benfica. In the return match, however, it was beaten with 0:5. 1971/72 played the second big match against FC Barcelona was played in the European Cup Winners' Cup. Here there was a quick stop with 1:3 and 0:4.

1971 Grosvenor Park was destroyed by fire. In the following decade the club frequently changed the stadium until they finally settled in 1980 in the suburb Ballyskeagh where the New Grosvenor Stadium was built. As a sign of this " resurrection " of the Phoenix has been added to the coat of arms. 1995/96, however, was followed by the relegation to the First Division. Three years later, managed to rise again. In the same year (1999) the name was officially changed to Lisburn Distillery FC and the emblem of the coat of arms of the city was incorporated. With the new name, it went right back to the First Division. While the Whites in 2001 still failed to move up in the play-off, the team came in the following year again in the highest league in which the club played until 2013. Then the club was relegated as the last IFA Premiership and thus plays only second-rate since the 2013/14 season.
