Little Joe 5B

Little Joe 5B ( LJ -5B ) was an unmanned test flight as part of the Mercury program to test the rescue system.

The flight was a repeat of the failed mission, Little Joe 5A, which in turn was a repeat of Little Joe 5. This time the flight went as desired, and the capsule was pulled as planned after 33 seconds from the rescue rocket from the Little Joe rocket. The capsule splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean and was recovered shortly afterwards from a helicopter. It can currently be seen at the Virginia Air and Space Center, Hampton, Virginia.
