Lom nad Rimavicou

Lom nad Rimavicou ( until 1926 slovak " Forgáčka " or " LOM "; Hungarian Forgáchfalva ) is a municipality in Brezno Okres within the Banskobystrický kraj in Slovakia, with about 300 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in the extreme west of the Slovak Ore Mountains, more precise, at its lower part Veporské Hills. At the same time it touches the Polana in the West. It is located north-west of the point where meet the Okresy Brezno, Detva and Poltár. N.M. With a height of 1015 m at the center it is considered as one of the highest communities in Slovakia; only in the Low and High Tatra Mountains are still higher altitude villages to find. In the immediate vicinity forth three rivers: the eponymous Rimavica, the Slatina and the Ipeľ. Lom nad Rimavicou is 15 kilometers from Hriňová and 25 kilometers from Brezno, with the connection to both cities on the country road II/529.

History

The village was founded in the late 18th century on the territory of the municipality Kokava nad Rimavicou (1786 spun off ). It is mentioned in 1799 as Forgáczfalva, 1802 Lom, 1808 Forgáčka. Established was the site of the eponymous family Forgách. In the 19th century was in place a glass factory and paper factory, this came in the early 20th century a saw. In 1828 there were 58 houses in Lom nad Rimavicou and had 473 inhabitants, who worked in forestry, animal husbandry and Fuhrwesen. 1882 a small place called Ďurkovka was incorporated, as well as the neighboring community Drábsko 1913 part of the municipality, but is since 1926 again independently.

Until 1918, the village in the county Gemer and small Hont was in the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. During the Slovak National Uprising in World War II was in place a field hospital for partisans.
