Lord Augustus Loftus

Lord Augustus William Frederick Spencer Loftus GCB ( Knight of the Order of Bath ), PC ( born October 4, 1817 in Bristol, † March 7, 1904 in Ascot ) was a British diplomat and colonial administrator.

Augustus Loftus served as ambassador to Austria ( 1858-60 ), ambassador to Prussia ( 1865-68 ), the North German Confederation ( 1868-1871 ) and in the Russian Empire ( 1871-1879 ). After that, he was Governor of New South Wales ( Australia) from 1879 to 1885.
