Louis VI, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt

Louis VI. of Hesse- Darmstadt (* January 25, 1630 in Darmstadt, † April 24, 1678 ibid ) was from 1661 until his death, Landgrave of Hesse -Darmstadt.

Life

Ludwig was the eldest son of the Landgrave George II of Hesse- Darmstadt (1605-1661) from his marriage to Sophie Eleonore (1609-1671), daughter of the Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony. After the death of his father he was in 1661, Landgrave of Hesse- Darmstadt.

In 1661 he was accepted by Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe- Weimar in the Fruitbearing society. He was awarded as the company name of the Intrepid and the motto before heat and frost. As an emblem It Wood Mangold was intended for. In Köthener society book Landgrave Ludwig finds entry under the number 774 In the company he became a close friend of the Duke Friedrich I of Saxe- Gotha, whose sister he married in 1666, and was also active as a writer. He called the theologians and Pietist Johann Winckler as pastor to Homburg and Wolfgang Carl Briegel ordered his court music. By its purchase of the library of the Johann Michael Moscherosch the palace and court library Darmstadt was actually founded. He earned 1662 final rule with Eberstadt Castle Frankenstein. In the same year he left the Glockenbau in Darmstadt palace built.
